Then the moment came.
That morning, the sun had just risen over Kuta Beach. The wind was still gentle, and the waves looked friendly—as if inviting anyone to give it a try. That’s where it all began: a first surfing experience full of hope… and a little bit of drama.
With the board in hand, every step felt confident. In my head, I was already imagining myself standing coolly on the waves like in the movies. But the moment I stepped into the water, reality kicked in.
The first wave came.
Tried to stand…
Success? No.
SPLASH!
Saltwater rushed into my nose, my hair was a mess, and the board almost drifted away on its own. It felt a little embarrassing at first, but then I realized—everyone around me was going through the same thing. Falling, it turns out, is part of the lesson.
Try again.
Fall again.
Get up again.
The instructor from Dekom Surf School just smiled and encouraged me, “Take it easy, feel the wave.” Simple words, but they started to make sense after a few tries.
Then the moment came.
The next wave rolled in gently. This time, the timing felt right. Hands pushed the board, feet started to stand… and suddenly—I did it.
I stood up.
Even if it was only for a few seconds, it felt like flying on water. All the exhaustion, nervousness, and falls suddenly paid off. A smile appeared without even realizing it.
That day wasn’t about being great.
It wasn’t about looking cool.
It was about having the courage to try, to fall, and to get back up again.
And from that moment, one thing became clear—once you try surfing, you’ll want to come back again. 🌊
