It felt different.
At first, I just joined in surfing, without expecting much…
Honestly, I came to the beach that day without big expectations.
My friends were so excited, while I was just going along with them.
In my mind, it was simple—
if I could stand on the board, great.
If not, that was fine too.
I stepped into the water with a bit of hesitation.
The water felt cold, and the waves looked bigger than I imagined.
The instructor gave some guidance, but my mind wasn’t fully “there” yet.
The first wave came.
I tried, but before I could even stand—I fell.
I laughed a little.
“Well… just as expected.”
Second wave, third wave… same story.
Fall, get up, fall again.
But strangely, I started to feel comfortable.
Not because I was good, but because I didn’t feel any pressure to succeed.
I just enjoyed the process.
The splash of water on my face, the sound of the waves, and the small laughs every time I fell.
Slowly, without realizing it, my body began to adjust.
My arms got stronger while paddling.
My timing started to improve when trying to stand.
Until finally… one wave came.
I didn’t think too much.
I just did what I had been doing.
Paddle.
Push up.
And… stand.
For a few seconds, I was actually standing on the board.
I paused for a moment, almost in disbelief.
“Wait… I can do this?”
Then I laughed to myself, almost losing balance… and fell again.
But this time, it felt different.
It wasn’t about how long I stood,
but the fact that I could—even though I came with no expectations.
And that’s when I realized,
sometimes when we don’t pressure ourselves too much,
we give space for unexpected things to happen.
I came just to go along with it,
without expecting much.
But it turns out… I could do it 🌊🏄♂️
