"Don’t worry,” he said, “everyone falls. That’s part of the fun.”

falling is normal

That morning, the ocean looked friendly—almost like it was inviting us in.

We stood on the beach, boards under our arms, pretending to be confident. But honestly, we were nervous. It was our first time, after all. Our instructor just smiled, like he already knew exactly how this would go.

“Don’t worry,” he said, “everyone falls. That’s part of the fun.”

We laughed… not fully convinced.

The lesson started with the basics—how to lie on the board, how to paddle, how to stand. It all sounded easy on the sand. Too easy.

Then we hit the water.

The first wave came.

One of my friends tried to stand… and instantly wiped out. Splash.

For a second, there was silence.

Then we all burst out laughing.

“Okay… maybe not that easy,” someone said.

One by one, we tried. Paddle, push, stand—fail. Paddle, push, stand—fail again. Saltwater in our mouths, hair all over our faces, arms already tired. But somehow… we couldn’t stop smiling.

The instructor stayed patient the whole time. He guided us, pushed our boards at the right moment, shouted “Stand up!” like a coach who believed in us more than we believed in ourselves.

And then—it happened.

One of us actually stood up.

For a few seconds, it felt like time slowed down. We cheered like it was the biggest achievement ever. Because in that moment, it was.

By the end of the lesson, we were exhausted, sun-kissed, and completely soaked. We didn’t become perfect surfers that day.

But we learned something better.

Surfing isn’t just about standing on the board—it’s about falling, laughing, trying again, and sharing every moment with people who make it unforgettable.

And as we walked back up the beach together, boards dragging behind us, we were already saying the same thing:

“When are we going again?” 🌊🏄‍♂️✨
